Assessor Department

The assessor is a local government official who estimates the value of real property within a city, town, or village’s boundaries. This value is converted into an assessment, which is one component in the computation of real property tax bills.

The assessor performs many other administrative functions, such as inspecting new construction and major improvements to existing structures. This ensures that the record of each property’s physical inventory is current and that the appropriate improvements are assessed.

Tax Exemptions

The assessor also approves and keeps track of property tax exemptions. Among the most common are the senior citizen, School Tax Relief (STAR), veterans, agricultural and business exemptions.

Application is due to the Assessor’s Office by March 1st.
DD214 Must be submitted with the application.

Important Dates to Remember

Grievance day in the Town of Evans is the 4th Tuesday of May, appointments recommended.

4th Tuesday in May – Grievance Day  

July 1 – Final Roll 

March 1 – Taxable Status Day

May 1 – Tentative Roll

The Town of Evans Assessor Jeneen Hill warns people not to give any personnel information over the phone regarding their STAR exemption.

It has been reported individuals are calling seniors claiming to be from County of Erie. The County of Erie has nothing to do with the STAR exemption. If you receive a call, do not give out any personal information. Contact the assessor’s office at 549-5752. 

Property tax exemptions which are currently available to Evans homeowners:

*Basic STAR (New Homeowners apply on-line with NYS)
*Enhanced STAR ( New Homeowners apply on-line with NYS, Homeowners with Basic STAR currently and turn age 65+ with in the calendar year with income under $98,700 can apply with the Assessor’s office.)
*Military Veterans
*Disability & Limited Income (households with income below $32,400)
*Senior Citizen (age 65 and income below $37,400)
*Town of Evans Residential Investment Exemption

If you are a new homeowner in Evans or think you may be eligible for one of the above property tax exemptions please call the Assessor’s Office at (716) 549-5752. Each has specific eligibility requirements and the deadline to apply for these exemptions is March 1st.
